Trudy’s project, WomEmpowerment, is an Afghan Women’s Empowerment Group. She is working with refugee mothers resettled in Pittsburgh with the Jewish Family Community Services (JFCS). Her project will address chronic disease and health risk behaviors. She will hold a series of classes that focus on topics such as nutrition, exercise, and mental health. Trudy will work with the mothers to ensure the topics are driven by subjects that the mothers are interested in. She will also incorporate how to address these topics while raising their children in America. By the end of her Fellowship year, Trudy hopes that the Afghan refugee women will be able to confidently grocery shop, exercise, and feed their family balanced meals.
