Schweitzer Fellows are servant leaders with a passion for health equity. Graduates of PSFP are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and networks to advance health and social equity in their careers and communities.
PSFP selects 10 to 24 Fellows per Fellowship year. Each Fellow will receive a $2,000 stipend – made payable directly to the Fellow in increments throughout the Fellowship year to offset the cost of Fellowship participation.

- Want to become more effective leaders and work with others to achieve change
The Pittsburgh Schweitzer Fellows Program is designed to bring together diverse fields of graduate studies, professions, and leaders who influence health and wellbeing. Project Proposal Information
Projects should:
- Address either the adverse health outcomes of one of the given priority areas and/or address the root cause of the problem.
- Enhance the services offered by the agency. The Fellow should work with the agency staff to develop a project relevant to the population being served.
- Have an enduring benefit to the agency and its clients after the Fellow’s direct service project has ended.
- Be able to be continued or emulated by other health professional students in the future.
- Incorporate the principles of Social Justice as defined by PSFP with work to bring about health equity.
- Address Social Determinant(s) of Health.
- Include education and/or advocacy.
Projects cannot be research-based. No research may be conducted during the course of the Fellowship year in relation to your project.
Selection Criteria
Our criteria include:
- Strength of statement of interest, including past accomplishments that demonstrate a strong commitment to health equity and advancement of social justice issues
- Quality and feasibility of the proposed project
- Strength of the recommendation survey
- An electronic survey will be sent to your Academic Advisor
- Endorsement from your University/Department
- Result of your personal and group interview with PSFP
Fellowship Requirements
The Pittsburgh Schweitzer Fellows Program is a 16-month commitment requiring a significant amount of time, work, and dedication to service. See application for specific requirements. *Requirements are subject to updates and/or changes by the Executive Director and Program Manager.
