The HEAR-UP project was started by former Fellow Rachel Fryatt eight years ago. This program offers free hearing evaluations, hearing aids, hearing aid fittings, and ongoing follow-up care to underserved populations in Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas.
Brooke will expand the HEAR-UP project to create accessible hearing healthcare for underserved populations in Homewood and the surrounding communities. She will engage senior citizens living in high-rise residences. Working with The Wellness Pavilion in Homewood, she will provide educational events about hearing healthcare, offer hearing screenings, perform otoscopy, and schedule follow-up appointments. Brooke’s goal is to foster a trusting relationship with the community by developing solutions to overcome healthcare barriers.
